What this calculator returns
The result gives the tropical Moon sign used in Western astrology and the Lahiri sidereal Moon sign (rashi) used in Vedic astrology, plus the Moon's birth star and pada.
Inputs and accuracy
Birth time matters when the Moon changed sign or nakshatra that day. If time is unknown, the calculation uses local noon and labels the result as potentially displaced by about seven degrees.
Calculation method
Planetary longitudes come from Swiss Ephemeris. Tropical positions use the seasonal zodiac; Vedic positions use Lahiri ayanamsa. Read the exact calculation method and limitations.
