Rashi chart, available navamsa houses, all nine grahas with nakshatra and pada, lagna, Moon sign, Vimshottari periods and a Mars placement screen. Positions come from Swiss Ephemeris with Lahiri ayanamsa. No account required.
What is in a janam kundali
A kundli is the map of the sky at the moment and place of birth, drawn in the sidereal zodiac used by Jyotisha. StarScore returns the pieces astrologers actually read:
- Lagna (ascendant): the rashi rising in the east at birth. It sets house 1 and everything else follows from it. It needs an accurate birth time, because the lagna changes sign roughly every two hours.
- Rashi chart (D1): the nine grahas (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu) placed by sign, drawn in the North Indian diamond style with the lagna at the top.
- Navamsa chart (D9): the ninth divisional chart, read for marriage and the underlying strength of each planet. A planet in the same sign in D1 and D9 is vargottama.
- Moon sign and janma nakshatra: the sidereal Moon's rashi and lunar mansion, with its pada. These support traditional Moon-rashi readings, kundli matching and the dasha clock. StarScore's public daily horoscope is a separate tropical Sun-sign reading.
- Vimshottari dasha: the 120-year sequence of planetary periods, started from the Moon's exact position in its nakshatra, with the current mahadasha expanded into antardashas.
- Manglik check: whether Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the lagna and from the Moon.
Reading the North Indian chart
House 1 is the diamond at the top and holds the lagna sign, shown as a number (1 = Mesha, 2 = Vrishabha and so on to 12 = Meena). Houses then run counter-clockwise: 2 and 3 in the top-left, 4 at the left, 7 at the bottom, 10 at the right. Houses stay put; the sign numbers rotate to match the lagna. Planet abbreviations sit inside their house; a small ℘ marks a retrograde planet.
How the positions are computed
Tropical longitudes come from Swiss Ephemeris. The Lahiri ayanamsa (about 24° in 2026) is subtracted to give sidereal positions. Rahu is the mean lunar node; Ketu is always exactly opposite. Houses in the rashi chart are whole-sign from the lagna. If the birth time is unknown, positions are computed for local noon and the chart is drawn from the Moon (a chandra kundli); the Moon itself can then be off by up to about 7°, which matters near a nakshatra boundary. Full detail is on the method page.
City mode resolves the birth-date offset from IANA timezone history; manual mode uses your explicit UTC offset. Repeated or skipped clocks need clarification. The result displays the resolved time. If the clock is unknown or Placidus cannot be computed at the location, natal houses and angles are omitted. The D1 then shows Moon-relative positions, while the D9 house diagram is withheld.

Kundli questions
Is this kundli free?
Yes. Calculations need no account and the API does not save a birth profile. If you explicitly continue to another tool, this browser tab temporarily carries the inputs for up to 30 minutes and clears the transfer when loaded. Downloads are personal files on your device.
Which ayanamsa does StarScore use?
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard adopted by the Indian government calendar committee and by most Indian software. That is why your rashi here will match AstroSage or Drik Panchang and differ from a Western chart by about 24 degrees.
I do not know my birth time. Can I still make a kundli?
Yes, with limits. Planets use local noon and the D1 chart has an explicitly labelled Moon reference. Natal houses, lagna and the D9 house diagram are omitted. The Moon may be displaced by up to about 7 degrees, affecting its sign, nakshatra, pada and dasha boundaries.
Why is my rashi different from my zodiac sign?
Western horoscopes use the tropical zodiac anchored to the equinox; Jyotisha uses the sidereal zodiac anchored to the stars. The two frames are about 24 degrees apart, so many people move back one sign. Both are correct measurements in different coordinate systems.
What is the difference between rashi and nakshatra?
A rashi is a 30 degree sign; a nakshatra is a 13 degree 20 minute lunar mansion. Traditional Moon-rashi readings use the sidereal Moon. StarScore public daily horoscopes instead use the tropical Sun sign. Your Moon nakshatra starts the dasha clock and contributes to kundli matching.
How is the birth timezone chosen?
Selecting a city uses its IANA timezone history for the birth date and local clock, including daylight saving. Repeated clocks offer valid offset choices; skipped clocks require a correction or explicit recorded offset. You can use a manual UTC offset, and the result displays the resolved time.
What happens at a polar location?
Where the requested Placidus calculation is unavailable, planetary positions remain available at the supplied time. Angles and natal houses are omitted, the D1 uses a Moon reference and no D9 house diagram is drawn. No alternative house system is silently substituted.
